About Carlos

I am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and am a member of the Ontario Association of Social  Workers. I hold a  Masters of Social Work Degree from the University of  Toronto, and a  Masters  degree in Sociology from Queen's University.
I have been providing counselling services to children, youth, adults and families, in a variety of
settings, and from  all walks of life,  for the past 12 years.  I have worked at a community  counselling agency in Guelph,  in the children's mental health sector,  and in residential programs for at-risk children and youth.  I am a published author, have experience providing clinical supervision to social work graduate students, and employment counselling for newcomers and 'at-risk' youth.
My work is informed by solution-focused, narrative, cognitive-behaviour, dialectical-behaviour and psychodynamic approaches to emotional healing and making positive behavioural change. I also draw on knowledge of social, cultural and economic factors to help create a context for the life-story of the individuals I work with.  I would like to emphasize that my approach is empathic, flexible and responsive to the individual's own unique needs and preferences.
